Relaxation is what this villa in Canggu is all about. With the rugged beach only 150 metres away, the ocean breezes that whisper across the villa’s terraces and gently permeate the living spaces will cool you on even the hottest of days.
The grand entrance to the villa is a wide flight of stone steps, leading up to a large living and dining room on the upper floor. This magnificent room is characterised by a polished wood floor under a soaring dark timber roof. At one end, sliding glass doors lead onto a veranda with a gorgeous ocean view. As soon as these doors are opened, the room is filled with cool sea breezes accompanied by the melodious sound of the waves, yet when the doors are closed, guests have the option of air-conditioned comfort. Down stone steps is the stunning 19-metre swimming pool, complete with an adjoining children’s pool fed by water spouts, set in a private walled garden dotted with sweet-scented frangipani trees and towering coconut palms.
The sea views are a treat, and Pantai Nelayan, which means ‘Fisherman’s Beach’ presents a true insight into the working lives of Bali’s fishing community. Every day, you can watch the fishermen setting out and returning to shore in their gaily painted jukung outriggers, each one fashioned from a single hollowed out tree trunk. The fisherman actually trade some of their catch on Nelayan Beach, which means you can expect some super-fresh seafood barbecues expertly prepared for you by the villa staff of six (provisions are purchased on guests account or paid for according to a priced menu). Located in a tiny traditional village, the villa is ideal for those who wish to escape from city life in peaceful tropical surroundings. You can walk along the beach for miles and watch the surfers riding the waves. Or maybe surfing is your forte, in which case you are in the perfect place. If you’re feeling lazy, the villa offers numerous terraces, decks and verandas on which to relax, so you will always find a private spot for peace and quiet, including a unique chill-out balcony located at roof level. The view from here, of Bali’s dramatic coastline stretching all the way down to Uluwatu, is astonishing.
