About Layan
Layan sits on the north-west coast of Phuket, at the quiet northern end of Bang Tao Bay, with Anantara Layan Phuket Resort right on the beach. It is one of the calmer places to live on the island: a quiet beach, villa estates and resort dining, with golf at Laguna around 10 mins away and the airport around 15 km by road (around 25-35 mins depending on traffic). The beach itself is simple. Most of the small beach restaurants have been removed, so do not expect a busy strip.
Layan has almost no shops, gyms or cafes of its own, so day to day you drive. Boat Avenue (Porto de Phuket) and Cherngtalay, with supermarkets, pharmacies, cafes and schools, are around 10-15 mins south. Nai Yang, with a Big C, is around 15-20 mins north. The nearest international schools are in Cherngtalay and Thalang, around 10-20 mins away, and BISP in Koh Kaew is a longer drive of around 30 mins. People who choose Layan are usually happy to trade walkable shops for quiet, space and a short run to the beach and the golf.
